History

Practically since its foundation, the International Organization New Acropolis has encouraged sports practices in the different countries where it is present.

It was in 1981 that New Acropolis in Spain initiated the celebration of sports meetings affectionately called “Olympiads” (fully aware of the mistake of attributing this designation, which referred to the 4-year period in classical Greece, to the celebration of sports games, but the accuracy of the name didn’t matter much at that time) that brought together hundreds of young people from more than 15 cities.

Since then, sports activities and the “Olympics” of fraternity have been promoted among students, volunteers, and friends of New Acropolis in many countries where it was present.

In 2010, the nonprofit organization “School of Sport with Heart” was born under the leadership of its current international director, Francisco Iglesias.

Its first challenge was to organize in 2011, in collaboration with the municipality of Chinchilla de Montearagón (Albacete, Spain), the Volunteer Olympics, aimed at all sports enthusiasts who volunteered in any organization and met the established minimum requirements.

This represented a significant boost, and in 2014, the project solidified, expanding to other countries. The first country was Brazil, in the southern region, which began to develop work along the same lines. In 2015, 2017, and 2019, in Sao Francisco Xavier, Sao Paulo, the Olympics began to be held similarly to how they were done in Spain, with the same spirit of unity and fraternity among all peoples.

Philosophical-Sports Preseasons also emerged, following a very similar development. The work extended to 9 different provinces, encompassing 27 cities.

Additionally, in Brasília, the Olympics are also organized, concentrating activity in the north-northeastern part of the country. There, they occur annually. Philosophical-Sports Preseasons are also conducted, with special attention to the training of monitors.

Currently, the School of Sport is present in 16 countries: Spain, Brazil, Canada, Paraguay, Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Czech Republic, Austria, Guatemala, Chile, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Romania, Slovakia, and Colombia.

In 2018, the first International Volunteer Olympics were held in Spain, in the beautiful city of Chinchilla de Montearagón, which hosted the national Volunteer Olympics in Spain seven years earlier.

In 2023, the II International Volunteer Olympics took place in Brazil, with the participation of over 400 participants, including athletes and volunteers.
